Welcome, New Men!
This week, the “New Men” of the Pontifical North American College – hailing from all corners of the United States, as well as Sydney, Australia – began their official “Orientation” as members of their respective classes: forty-eight of the Class of 2018, two of the Class of 2017, and one of the Class of 2016.
In line with tradition, Msgr. James Checchio led the New Men to the Confessio of St. Peter’s Basilica, where they collectively recited the Nicene Creed before descending into the crypt to celebrate a Votive Mass of St. Peter at the very tomb. In his homily, Msgr. Checchio noted the appropriateness of beginning one’s journey in Rome at the tomb of Peter, the “Rock” on whom the Church was built.
Orientation provides the “New Men” with ample opportunities to become familiar with the city of Rome in general and the Pontifical North American College in particular. During the weeks, they will be guided in their faith journey, as well as their fraternity. Some highlights include: Sunday Angelus with the Holy Father, a tour of the Papal Gardens at Castle Gandolfo with Cardinal James Harvey, and a “Fraternity Weekend” in Assisi.
