Spiritual Director Named Monsignor
It is with joy that we announce that Father Joseph Hanefeldt of the Archdiocese of Omaha has been named a Chaplain to His Holiness, with the title of Reverend Monsignor. Msgr. Hanefeldt is currently the Director of Spiritual Formation of the North American College. Please keep Msgr. Hanefeldt in your prayers as he continues to shape the spiritual lives of seminarians from the United States, Canada, and Australia in Rome.
Msgr. Hanefeldt joined the College faculty in 2007 as a full-time Spiritual Director and was named the Director of Spiritual Formation in 2009. Msgr. Hanefeldt grew up on a family farm near Creighton, NE. He completed his college seminary training in 1980 at St. John Vianney College Seminary at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He is a member of the North American College’s Class of 1984, completing his S.T.B. at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has served the Archdiocese of Omaha in various pastoral roles throughout his years of priesthood, including associate pastor, pastor, and spiritual director for Teens Encounter Christ and the Cursillo Movement. Also notably, Msgr. Hanefeldt has assisted at the Institute of Priestly Formation in Omaha as a spiritual director. In January of 2005 he received a certificate in “Spiritual Direction and Retreat Ministry.” Msgr. Hanefeldt brings a generous heart and great enthusiasm to the community. Congratulations Msgr.
