Old Men Win Spaghetti Bowl
As per NAC custom the Spaghetti Bowl was played Sunday, November 29. Although its historical foundation is uncertain, the annual flag football game that pits the 1st year seminarians against the rest of the house is one of the college’s longest-lived traditions.
Having lost their best quarterback of memory (Rev. Joe Freedy, ’08) returning students were eager to see a restructured team, and the distinct possibility of a New Man upset victory.
Although the crowd was treated early to good food and a typical NAC pre-game production, their hopes for a good game seemed in doubt by the end of the first half. With a 27-12 score the 1st years seemed ready to accept their place in the record books.
The Old Men struck again to begin the 2nd half in what was their last productive series of the game. The New Men, once demoralized, rallied against their lackluster opponents to make it a one-possession game late. Whether it be wisdom or guile, the Old Men hung on late, displaying the execution that had once gained them a 20 point lead.
Memorable performances of the game were sent in by Daniel Gallagher (’13), James Platania (’13), and coach Ross Parker (’13) who came up short against the efforts of Jadyn Nelson (’12), Patrick Arensburg (’12), and Craig Vasek (’10).
