The College Remembers Fr. Donath Hercsik S.J.
| This past Saturday, November 13, 2010, Fr. Donath Hercsik, S.J., the dean of theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University passed away. For many students at the College, this is the passing of a beloved professor. He was also a strong collaborator with the College. Succumbing to a battle with cancer, Fr. Donath was an example of a priest who wished to serve God with every minute of his life.
His funeral was held on Tuesday, November 16, at the Church of St. Ignatius in the city of Rome. With over 250 priests concelebrating, the Church was filled with some standing during the funeral Mass. In a very moving ceremony, celebrated by fellow Jesuit and professor Archbishop Luis Ladaria, the University was united in prayer to mourn and honor their beloved professor. Born in Klausenberg in 1965, Fr. Donath joined the Society of Jesus at the age of 20. He came to the Gregorian University in 2001, becoming dean of the Faculty of Theology in 2008. He was well published with 5 books and many articles. The Lord called him home at the young age of 45. His Curriculum Vitae from the Gregorian Website is available here.
