Alumni Concelebrate the Sunday Eucharist

This Sunday’s Eucharist, on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, was concelebrated at the College by the numerous alumni present for the Sesquicentennial celebrations of the foundation of the College.  The Mass was offered for the deceased alumni and His Eminence, William Cardinal Levada ’61, C’71 was the principle celebrant. In his homily, Monsignor Charles Murphy, rector 1979-1984, looked back upon the College’s long history characterized by fidelity to the Gospel and love of the Roman Pontiff. Monsignor made note of the happy providence which sees the coincidence of the 150th anniversary of the College and the Year for Priests proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI last June. Quoting St. Jean-Marie Vianney, the model offered to priests by our Holy Father during this special year, Monsignor Murphy reminded those gathered of the priest’s sublime vocation, “After God, the priest is everything.” As this Year for Priests aims at a time of renewal for priests throughout the world, so this gathering of alumni is also aimed at renewal and recommitment to this great vocation of love in the service of God’s people.
