59 New Lectors Installed
On Sunday, January 12, the Pontifical North American College welcomed 59 newly installed lectors. The Mass of the Installation of Lectors was celebrated by His Excellency Bernard Hebda, coadjutor Archbishop of Newark.
The reception of the ministry of lector is call to a deeper appreciation of the word of God and a commission to proclaim the word in the liturgical assembly. The new lectors will now perform their ministry each day in the Mass and Liturgy of the Hours celebrated at the College.
During the rite of installation, each of the seminarians knelt before Archbishop Hebda and received the Lectionary from him, as he said, “Take this book of holy Scripture and be faithful in handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people.”
The new lectors prepared to receive their ministry by spending an evening in prayerful recollection and discernment, guided by a reflection offered by Father James Quigley, O.P., Formation Advisor and Carl J. Peter Chair of Homiletics.
