Staff
The Director of the Institute, Father Michael Wensing, STL, is an alumnus of the Casa ‘85 of the Pontifical North American College. He obtained a license in Biblical Theology in 1985.
Contributing presenters are for the most part professors at the various Roman Pontifical Universities (Gregorian, Angelicum, Alphonsianum, etc.) and see their work with the Institute as an extension of their teaching. The give-and-take of priests actually engaged in the various pastoral ministries is something they look forward to as a way to keep themselves grounded in the Church that extends beyond the classroom. As well as Jesuit, Franciscan, Dominican, Carmelite, Atonement and diocesan priests, presenters include religious sisters and lay persons in various academic, pastoral, and spiritual areas of concentration. Presenters are often from the USA, Ireland, Great Britain, Australia, Malta, Germany, Canada and other nations, assuring a breadth of view.
Location
Priests participating in the Institute reside at the Casa O’Toole on the campus of the Pontifical North American College on the Janiculum Hill (Italian: Via del Gianicolo 14), overlooking the Vatican and much of Rome. Located next door to the seminary Casa O’Toole has its own classroom, lounge and chapel and dining room. While having its own dining services the residents of Casa O’Toole will at times eat with the seminarians (e.g. pranzo) in the seminary refectory.
Facilities
The class presentations take place in the Institute’s classroom and there are several on-site visits to locations of religious and historical significance, as well as some special excursions (e.g. to Monte Cassino, Via Appia, Assisi, etc.). Sabbatical priests will have use of the College’s library, computer lab, weight room / tennis courts / sports field, sundries-shop, snack bar, dry cleaning, Fed Ex, and money-exchange services.
